About D-CHS

Dundee-Crown High School

Upon its completion in 1965, the building at 1500 Kings Road, Carpentersville, has been two high schools: Irving Crown until 1983 and Dundee-Crown (D-CHS) presently. Dundee-Crown High School is a comprehensive AAA school, boasting a student body of approximately 2,500.

Demographically, D-CHS has a large diversity of students feeding from the towns of Carpentersville, Algonquin, East Dundee, West Dundee, and Sleepy Hollow, and also small parts of Cary and Barrington. The school has gained national attention through its Environmental Science program, winning awards from the EPA and National Water Works for its efforts in recycling and ecological preservation. It also has a well-recognized Music program, highly motivated Industrial Education program, and competitive core academics.

Dundee-Crown's Student Council has a long-standing tradition of hosting Homecoming activities that spur not only building unity, but also community unity by involving neighboring towns and businesses as sponsors and members of the annual Homecoming parade. The girl's basketball Christmas Tournament, hosted annually by Dundee-Crown, is a longstanding tradition that is well known though the Chicagoland area. Strong parental and community involvement sheds positive light on the building and its students, stemming mainly from the dedicated members of the Booster Club, POMP (Parents of Music Performers) and the newly-formed PACT (Parents and Chargers Together) groups.

Over the years, Dundee-Crown has implemented several programs aiming to boost achievement and the success of its students. The Freshman Academy, created in 2008, works to ensure that incoming freshman are given the necessary tools and direction needed to succeed in high school and Charge It Up, an advisory period, was designed to create opportunities for building student-staff relationships as well as learning new strategies for successfully completing state assessments.

As the home of the Chargers, Dundee-Crown has immense school spirit and has been regarded by current and past students, parents, and employees as a sound educational environment and a wonderful place to learn and grow.
